Captain Carl and His Amazing Sea Creatures!

Captain Carl and his amazing sea creatures return to Riverside on May 3rd! Adults and children alike will be able to hold a starfish, squeeze a sea squirt, and touch an urchin, as we bring a bit of the shore to Riverside. Captain Carl will be with the Museum at the Main Library (3900 Mission Inn Avenue, Riverside) on May 3rd, 2026, from 1-4 p.m.

Butterfly Walk at Washington Park

Take a butterfly walk with an entomologist! Meet us at Captain Charles Dammers’ plaque at Washington Park, on the corner of Victoria Avenue and Mary Street, for a morning stroll as we hunt for nature’s flying jewels. Learn about the life and work of Captain Dammers, known as Riverside’s Butterfly Man, and spot the creatures he so lovingly documented.

Movies on the Lawn: Mothra (1961)

A gigantic egg on a remote atomic testing island contains a giant moth that attacks those who have kidnapped its twin guardians! Join us for a Movie on the Lawn inspired by out Heritage House exhibition A Victorian Heritage: Riverside’s Butterfly Man, on view through June 28, 2026. We invite you once again for cozy viewings of classic Hollywood films under the stars on the lawn at Heritage House. These FREE events will take place May 15 and June 26. Doors open at 8 and screening begins at 8:30. Concessions available at the Riverside Museum Associates' Snack Shack (CASH ONLY). Limited on site and street parking available.

Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social

Save the date for the eagerly awaited return of the Ice Cream Social at Heritage House! Enjoy an afternoon of old-fashioned fun with live music, games, and a free scoop Sunday, May 17, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Takes place at Heritage House, 8193 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside. This event is free and family-friendly. Street parking is available. This year we're embracing America's 250th anniversary! Stay tuned for the announcement of a special flavor!

Moth Madness!

Join the Museum of Riverside at the Riverside-Corona Resource Conservation District’s LandUse Learning Center for a night of bug exploration! Tour the grounds looking for insects, have your questions answered by a biologist, and see what critters come into the black light sheets. Come on out for this free and family-friendly night in nature!

Painting Nature: Art in the Garden

It’s your last chance to see A Victorian Naturalist: Riverside’s Butterfly Man at Heritage House.  Spend an afternoon in the gardens with us making nature journals, mixing our own watercolors, and illustrating butterflies.
